Q: Why black and white?
A: Well, it is a Black & White (color) Theme Party. You can wear whatever you want, just as long as you wear no other colors but black and/or white. No black and pink, no blue and grey...only black and white. You can do all black or all white, or mix it up. It is not a formal event, so you can come casual or decent club attire. More examples of what is not OK: purple, cream, denim, faded black, dingy white, white with small yellow stripes, kaleidoscope. (I had to break it down for those that don't understand.) FYI: Security is on alert for violators!
Q: What type of music will be played?
A: There will be a variety of R&B and Hip-Hop (both Christian and non-Christian), Motown, Slides, Steppin' music, etc. Come prepared to dance!!!
Q: Are there any special party features?
A: Yes. There will be a couple of party games. There will be a dance floor for dancing. Also, there will be a bartender mixing Mocktails (non-alcoholic Cocktails).
Q: Should I RSVP?
A: Please do, by all means. I have to put your name on the guest list, or you will not be allowed into the building, so please make sure you RSVP, by April 7th, yourself and anyone coming with you. Q: How do I get there?
A: It is on the SOUTH SIDE of Chicago in Hyde Park from Lake Shore Drive: 4850 S. Lake Park Ave, 60615. Map & Driving Directions
Q: Will parking be a problem? Updated Answer
A: Yes, parking in this area can be a little hassle. You can park on the streets around the building and in the neighborhood, just be clear of fire hydrants, and be sure to read all signs. Hyde Park is a safe, quiet community. Unfortunately, the Co-op Market (on 47th and Lake Park) is closed and there is no need for security to be in the lot, so since the security company no longer works this lot, I do not think it is wise to park there, risking your car being ticketed or towed.
Q: OK, so I made it, now where do I go?
A: Make sure you are in the 4850 building. Give the security guard at the desk your first and last name, and that you are here for the Duncan/James Party (my girl Adwoa Duncan is the one with the facility connection). You must be on the list, or they will not let you in. They will guide you to make a RIGHT down the hall, and take the elevator up to the 2nd floor (or take the stairs, the elevator is slow), make a RIGHT, and you can enter the Meeting Room.
Q: Did you know there was Good Friday Service at church from 6pm until about 7, 7:30pm?? (Only LCIC people will and have asked this)
A: My, my, my...and people asked me why did I create the FAQ section...because I have to explain everything. Yes, I am aware of that. My location and date were secured back in the beginning of March before I knew about the Good Friday Service. By all means, please go, and do not allow this event to deter you. Come after the service, I am sure the party will still be going on...but we will wait for you.
Q: Can I invite other people?
A: Sure, but the max capacity is 100 people. You will need to RSVP them. Also let them know what type of environment this is.
Q: What type of environment is this?
A: Respectful...no smoking, no liquor, no swearing, no fighting!
Q: Will there be children there?
A: No. This is not a children's birthday party. This is an adult atmosphere. Please do not bring any children, teens, etc. I know of several teenagers that may be willing to baby-sit. Let me know, and I will contact them. Keep in mind; you will have to pay them.
Q: Do I have to bring a gift?
A: Gifts are not required, but I do take cash, LINK, and a prepaid gas card is always nice. Just kidding.
Q: Why is the party ending so early? My kickin' it is just beginning at 12:30pm?
A: Well, the facility is being rented. Unfortunately, their rules say party must be over by 1:00am. 12:30pm gives us time to clean up.
Q: So, let me get this straight, we can only wear black and white?
A: Correct. Only black and white colors. Either all black, all white, or both. Please no other colors. I would hate to have security escort you out!
